Why do I feel like every story I share lately begins or ends with me crying?
It may surprise you to know I’ve never really been a crier. But somewhere between motherhood, the daily flood of sweet testimonials in my inbox, & the beautiful pro-life stories we get to witness through this mission, tears have become a familiar companion.
A few weeks ago, I found myself sitting in the sixth row at a Live Action event, quietly sniffling & begging my mascara not to run.
On stage sat Toni McFadden alongside some familiar voices like Riley Gaines Barker & Lila Rose. Then Toni began sharing her story.
She spoke about facing an unplanned pregnancy as a senior in high school. She believed the lie that abortion would allow life to simply move forward. That no one would know. That the relationship she was in would survive.
Instead, the day after her boyfriend brought her to the abortion clinic, he broke up with her.
She later experienced serious medical complications after taking the chemical abortion pills. Her story was raw, honest, & heartbreaking.
I sat there holding my breath, heart aching for teenage Toni, silently praying redemption would come next.
Then she said two words that changed everything.
“But God.”
She shared how God, rich in mercy, rescued her soul in college. How healing came. How redemption unfolded in ways only God could write.
Nearly ten years later, the same boyfriend returned to apologize.
He told her he left because he could not face what they had done together. Less than a year after that conversation, they were married.
When their wedding photo appeared on the screen, the room burst into laughter as she joked, “Surprise…he’s white,” a much-needed moment of joy after so many tears.
They honored their baby at their wedding by lighting a candle, acknowledging that their child’s life mattered & would never be reduced to a statistic.
Today, they have four beautiful children & a powerful testimony of redemption.
And yes, my mascara did not survive that story.

Toni now serves on the board of LC Medical & Support Services, the pregnancy resource centers we are honored to support this month.
These centers provide compassionate, confidential care to women & families in Kutztown & Hamburg, Pennsylvania, meeting people in vulnerable moments with both practical support & Gospel-centered hope.
Their mission reflects something we deeply believe at We Heart Nutrition.
